PAINTING CONSERVATOR

Blair Bailey, M.A. & PAIC

Blair Bailey is the Founder and Painting Conservator at Baileywick Art Conservation LLC based in Manhattan, NY. After obtaining two B.A. degrees in Art History and History from American University in Washington, D.C., she graduated with distinction from the Northumbria University M.A. in the Conservation of Fine Art- Easel Paintings program. As part of her successful museum career, Blair was the Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Painting Conservation at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Her other museum employers include The Ringling (Sarasota, FL), the National Gallery of Ireland, and various Smithsonian Institution branches such as the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution Archives, and the Museum Conservation Institute.

Blair has internationally presented and published on her technical examinations and treatments. She has authored three chapters on the painting techniques of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, as well as the preparatory methods and painting technique of Andrea Sacchi. As seen in her work, Blair has a passion for public outreach and enjoys sharing conservation projects through interviews, in-person or virtual lectures, blog posts, and social media.

Blair is a peer-reviewed Professional Associate Member of the American Institute for Conservation and her treatments meet their Code of Ethics.
